How We Insulate Walls
After an inspection, we map where your home loses heat. Open walls, new construction or renovation, get foam applied directly into the stud bays. The foam expands to fill cracks, seams and corners that batts never reach, and it does not settle or sag over time the way loose-fill materials can.
Walls Are One Part of the Envelope
Walls perform best when the rest of the envelope is doing its job, so we will often look at more than the walls on the same visit. The attic and the crawl space are the two areas that most often undermine good wall insulation, and each has its own page because each is a genuinely different job.
For damp or below-grade walls we specify closed cell spray foam, which adds a moisture barrier and structural rigidity. For a wall that is already closed up and finished, see injection foam.
